Hired by a major insurance company in 1994, Lien worked as an insurance defense lawyer to handle personal injury litigation cases. She was the managing attorney from 1999 to 2008 for the legal department of an insurance company in San Diego County.

While working as an insurance defense lawyer, Lien took on pro bono family law cases. In addition, she assisted her brother and husband, who are both lawyers, while they were in private practice with their family law and business litigation cases.

After years of working for a corporation and self-reflection, Lien realized her vision of having her own practice in 2008. It took an incredible amount of courage and planning for Lien to take the risk of going out on her own. The major factor in Lien's decision to take that leap was because she realized that her skills and hard work were only being used to increase corporate profits. She was excellent at her job, but was not helping any deserving people. It was really difficult to give up a good pay check, good benefits, and a title, but she is so glad she did it.

On her growth since starting her own practice, Lien says, "I have become a much better lawyer as I have to be very resourceful to represent individual injured clients. I have to find ways to overcome the successful campaigns of insurance companies that label injured victims as 'greedy' and 'anti-American'." So many people have unfortunately and unknowingly forfeited their rights as a result of the fears and guilt of being branded for "milking the system" and filing "frivolous lawsuits." Her awareness of this hurdle fuels Lien not only to fight for her clients, but also to help bring awareness to the community of their legal right to compensation for their harm.

Since starting her own practice in 2008, Lien has obtained millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements for her clients. Lien has successfully tried many personal injury and family law cases in the Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties. Over her twenty-one years of litigation practice, she has resolved hundreds of cases through mediations and arbitrations.

In August 2011, Lien obtained a $12.3 million verdict for her clients at trial in a brain injury motor vehicle accident case.

In May 2015, Lien obtained a $277,500 verdict at trial in a case involving a client with chronic pain due to soft issue injury from a motor vehicle accident. Her client's medical bills were only $17,500 and prior to trial, Defendants' insurance company thought that their offer to settle for $38,000 was more than generous.
